“ What a great place for coffees and cakes, and to work, in a lovely, quiet and welcoming atmosphere. I was invited to use the Alma Cafe to teach a 1 to 1 photography workshop and I was very happy with that choice. The quality of the food and drinks was excellent and the owner, Lisa, is lovely. The art on the walls is a great extra touch. I can highly recommend this cafe'. ”
“ What an absolute little gem of a place! I came in and was greeted by a lovely smiling lady whom filled the cafe with her radiant smile and warm personality. I had a cheese and ham croissant with a latte and my mum just had a latte. The prices are very cheap and I thoroughly enjoyed my croissant. I will definitely call in again. A credit to York! ”

“ I’m always on the lookout for new, independent coffee shops to try when I go into York; today I chose Alma, a delightful family run business. The address is Coppergate but it’s not in the plaza area with the Jorvik Centre, Bodyshop etc, rather it’s along the main road of Coppergate , less than a minute’s walk from the crossing/entrance to Coppergate shops. My first impressions were that it was bright, inviting, quite small and quirky-then I headed down to the loo and hit a while new level of quirkiness! The spiral staircase takes you down into a beautifully decorated lounge style area with colourful seating and bookshelves. The loo is down here so sadly not accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited balance and/ or mobility issues. The loo is beautifully decorated; this is definitely the first time I’ve used a samovar soap dispenser! I had a coffee with oatmilk which was delicious! There was no gf available today but the cakes all looked delicious. I liked the decor in the main area, particularly the lighting and all the original art work. Will definitely be returning; highly recommended! ”
